World renown Chef Daniel Boulud entrusted the TAA team with the launch of his DBGB Kitchen + Bar concept at City Center DC in September 2014. We executed a three-pronged strategy including the following elements:
Private Chef’s Dinner:
Three months prior to opening, Chef Boulud invited 50 of the top chefs in the DC area including Frank Ruta, Ris Lacoste, Carla Hall, Mike Isabella, Mark Furstenberg, Eric Ziebold, Johnny Spero, Mike Friedman, Haidar Karoum, Robert Wiedmaier, Scott Drewno, R.J. Cooper, Tiffany MacIsaac, Kyle Bailey, Michel Richard, Aggie Chin, Victor Albisu, Cathal Armstrong, Bill Yosses, Kaz Okochi, Frederik De Pue, Cristeta Comerford, Roberto Donna and Jeffrey Buben, among others to a private dinner at long time friend and Chef Francis Layrle’s restaurant La Piquette. Chef Boulud personally cooked and served his colleagues, shared laughs and discussed the state of the DC culinary scene in a very intimate setting.
Influencer Program –
TAA developed an impressive list of key influencers from the business, political, philanthropic and social scenes to preview DBGB prior to opening. High-level diners met with Chef Boulud, gave feedback and helped to spread the good word about the DC offering at DBGB.
Grand Fete – The TAA team planned an executed what has been called “the most decadent restaurant opening in DC’s recent history.” A live street band played on the red carpet (dots) as guests entered the VIP-studded event. Guests were treated to a spirited evening full of delicious surprises including a 6ft tall DBGB etched ice sculpture of the Washington Monument nestled in the raw bar overflowing with lobster, fresh oysters and shrimp. Hand crafted cocktails, flutes of sparkling wine mingled with pistachio macarons, slices of a seven-layer duck and foie gras tourte. The piece de resistance was the 8ft long baked Alaska that was torched to the crowd’s delight by Chef Boulud and Executive Chef Ed Scarpone.
Several notable Chefs left their own kitches on a Friday night to congratulate Chef Boulud including Jose Andres, Carla Hall, Patrick O’Connell, Cathal Armstrong, Mark Furstenberg, Ris Lacoste, Bertrand Chemel, Frank Ruta, Francis Layrle and Robert Wiedmaier.
Daniel introduced guests to his best friends, business partners, daughter Alix Boulud who coincidentally had just moved to the DC area and also his wife a new four month old baby. Sweet baby Boulud stole his dad’s thunder with his cap and red bow tie. He also gave a warm shout out to special guest and daughter of his mentor the late great chef Jean-Louise Palladin – Verniene Palladin.
Other VIP guests included Ambassador Rivkin – US Ambassador to France, EU Ambassador to US – Ambassador João Vale de Almeida, Marie – Therese Royce – Wife of US Congressman Ed Royce, Mary Anne Huntsman – Daughter of Gov. Huntsman, Ambassador Capricia Marshall, Mark Ein, Wilhelmina Cole Holladay and Wallace F. Holladay – Founder of National Museum of Women in the Arts, Jan, Philippe and Ashlan Gorse Couteau together with a great mix of local business, culture, arts and media leaders.
Post Opening -Welcome Dinner for French Ambassador Araud – TAA hand selected a high level group of guests for a private dinner to welcome Ambassador Gerard Araud to his new post in Washington, DC. Both Chef and the Ambassador were new to DC and had ties to Washington in the 80s.
